Colonel Brendan P. Kearney, U.S. Marine Corp (Ret)
Topic: The War in Ukraine: Is Conflict Resolution Possible?
To me, unless you lived near a big city with diverse immigrant families, countries like Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, 6 countries ending in STAN, Georgia (not the peach state), and Ukraine, were just places near Russia. And for decades we aren’t exactly best friends with Russia. End of my history 101. Then in February of 2022 Russia decided that Ukraine was really a part of Russia, and it should return to the Mother Land. Wow, that has certainly created an international quagmire.
Colonel Brendan P. Kearney, U.S. Marine Corp (Ret). Is a SF native graduate from USF with a degree in government. In addition, Colonel Kearny holds an MS in National Security Strategy from the National War College. He was additionally a recipient of a Fellowship from MIT Center of International Studies in the Seminar XXI Program.
His 31 years of service spanned the globe to include combat during Operation DESERT STORM. Staff assignments with the U.S. Pacific Command and multiple tours at Headquarters, U. S. Marine Corps. His final assignment was as Chief of Staff, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe in Stuttgart, Germany.
Colonel Kearny has spent time studying the war in Ukraine. Let’s get a condensed history lesson on just how Ukraine became a household name and the recipient of billions of US dollars, military support and equipment. What is our involvement and why? Will Putin ever agree to a cease fire and will President Trump’s negotiations and persistence lead to eventual conflict resolution and what might that be?
